We have the power to hurt or heal someone with our words. A nice word could give someone the encouragement they need to make it through the day, or a rude word could tear down their previous courage. What you may be saying sarcastically or jokingly may be taken seriously by another person. Words could ruin or save a relationship.
Specifically, as christians, the way we interact with other people is direct insight into how our God works. If we are rude and dishonest, people will picture that when they picture God. If we are kind and gentle, that is what people will see when they think of God. We want to encourage people to accept God, not scare them away. Think before you speak. It's a simple concept that just might change a life.
